MCP is a layer in between your chatbot and tools and services you might want your chatbot to use.

It's a description of how the MCP "client" (your chatbot) and various MCP "servers" should engage.

Initially MCP servers run on your local machine, but the MCP folks at Anthropic already have a priority item on their roadmap to enable MCP servers that are running remotely.
